Thanks. I've just finished downloading 8.5.2
I'll give it a spin this evening and then I can give some feedback.

Good. It's a work in progress still, but coming along nicely I think. Enjoy.

I've played a few games and it feels quite smooth, no lag that I've could notice so far. Game plays faster as no energy bottleneck. Had a bit of disco blue flashing light issues and one of my games kept crushing shortly after year 30.
Takes a bit of getting used to new cruiser model. Feel a bit underpowered somehow. And it would be more
logical to have an access to it before getting access to BC, which is a superior unit.
The capital ship availability should be :
Destroyer -> Cruiser -> BC -> BS & Vortex

The BC may be a superior unit, but it's also the basic ship in the super capital family. The cruiser is the top tier ship of the battle capital family.

If we move it to science divison, the hammer cruisers will become obsolete ships, and hiigaran will gain a massive technology edge against vaygr (which they already have)

True. But what is the point of building Cruisers if you have access to BC? I could justify building one
only if I'd have 2 officers to spare and couldn't get a BC.
On the side note: what is the ratio of RU spent on building a ship to RU gained when
you retire one? And if the ship has weapons build do you get RU for them as well?

The ratio is 80% recycled.
The point in building cruisers is upgrade lead. The thing is, that you need a shipyard to access super capitals, therefore you can only start getting their upgrades later into the game in comparison to battle capitals.
Since you'll probably(depending on your unit composition) will have invested into battle capital upgrades before transitioning into super capitals, the already existing battle capitals you have will make it a more strategically sound decision to keep building ships of the same class - in this case, cruisers.

If you try this, you'll see that the Hiigaran always would want to go for a higher number of 3/3 cruisers than a handful of 1/1 BCs.

Do you get RUs back for weapons?
I quite often have a combination of 10-20 platforms combined with a swarm
of frigates which allows me to destroy/capture pretty much anything that gets
thrown against me - then I get one or two BCs which become linchpin of my
operations with frigates either ground down by enemy forces or retired.
Usually I end up with 3 BS and a Vortex and its pretty much endgame phase.
But I'll give it a go your way, I'll see how it'll work. Do you build hammer
cruisers as all?
On a side note - would it be possible for Cruisers to gain experience as well?
It would make them more fun to play with and added incentive to keep them
around a bit longer.

Yes, you even get RUs for weapons through the rearm order.
In multiplayer we're relying on strike craft openings (or sometimes frigate ones) to be able to disrupt enemy economy or to hold your own against the enemy's raids.

Hammer cruisers are really potent if you choose them over destroyers, seeing as they have VERY long range, and a nuke ability for engineering division. Getting that and suddenly unleashing 4-5 nukes right when the tech finishes is pretty powerful.

In the future, we will tweak the experience system, and possibly expand it on more ships. Right now though, we have a lot of tasks as you can see in the Jobs forum section.

In any case, would you be interested in multiplayer balance testing? We need all the manpower we can get.

Sure, I'd like to play against human players. Playing against AI gets
repetitive after few hundred games.

Hmm, perhaps a light cruiser variant of the cruiser could be available earlier, with weaker armour for example for balance. A much heavier armour upgrade could then be researched once the BCs are unlocked.

*Pokes ALC in the face* remember me...? Razz

What I wanted to ask, what language is this mod written in? I've been hard at work the past two years in computer science and developing games (and game APIs) in Java and Ruby. If you need a coding hand...I'd be happy to help. And slowly get back into the mod thing.

He He, yea. I've been in contact with Bill for the last 2-3 years and he's been telling me a little bit about what was going on (from the make a new game to, just a mod and now new bod with the more progressive people). Though I'd pop by. I'll try not to rage quit from the forums again XD

Good on you. Nakamura's the head cheese here. Different ethos. Things are getting done. Have you tried the current release of CEnhanced yet? Lots of improvements. Worth putting your two cents in.

Hey SpaceKookie, we'd be very much interested in some help. The game is mainly lua based. Keep zerging around until we put up a team vote! (And I'm Nakamura #208 on sc2, playing on NA mainly, in case you want to add me)

Ha, I guess my avatars tshirt gave a few things away XD
Lua, eh? I have geniunly never heard of that O.o Most of my work is in Java/ C# (Sometimes C if I go hardcore^^) and Ruby for server tools, though my ruby scripts have been…well. Simple Razz

/** 5 minutes later */
But from what I can tell lua is quite a basic language. Shouldn't be too hard to figure out. I would prefer something imperative but meh.

As for SC2, I only play on Europe but I believe you can create accounts on other servers now as well without having to buy the game again, can't you?

Yes, Lua is simple to figure out. I have the same details on EU, but only rarely go on there.

Could I get read access to the project files? Bill told me you're using drop box, there should be a read-only option in there. Though I think long term would be a good idea to move into a GIT/ Mercurial respo like www.bitbucket.com They have free private ones. (Issue tracker, etc.)

The team is too big for any alternatives, as is the size we need.
As for getting access to our files, we currently only share with people who are in the team already. For now, your options are either waiting until you become a part of the team, or extracting our upcoming 8.6 release.

Aaaah...yea true. Didn't think of that. The projects I'm working on are just 3-4 people or people with their own repositories doing pull requests and forks.
Well I'd just wanna get read access to get a look at the code, see if I could help etc. I just downloaded the mod, will try it out tomorrow and get a feel for it Razz
